The latest phase of the NHS reorganisation within Wales
1 Oct 2009The latest phase of the NHS reorganisation within Wales takes effect from today the 1st October 2009.
The functions of many of the NHS Trusts and Local Health Boards have been merged into seven new much larger Local Health Boards.
The Welsh Assembly Government has put in place legal orders to transfer all legal rights and responsibilities to the new bodies.
Welsh Health Supplies parent body and legal entity is now "Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Local Health Board" which may appear in documentation as "ABMU LHB" or just "ABMU".
NOTE: The new LHBs have been allowed to drop the word "Local" for common usage e.g. on stationary, signage or websites.
For example "Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board" or "ABMU HB".
However for any legal documentation, it should still be included.
More information on the new organisations can be found on www.wales.nhs.uk.
